Sand dunes of Mui Ne under a blue sky, Phan Thiet, Vietnam

Mui Ne

Red and white sand dunes, a bay full of fishing boats, kitesurfing winds and fresh seafood – Mui Ne is southern Vietnam's favourite beach escape from Saigon.

Mui Ne is a coastal resort town and fishing harbour east of Phan Thiet, about 200–220 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Since 1 July 2025 it has been a ward of Lam Dong province, formerly Binh Thuan. Its dry, windy climate created landscapes found nowhere else in Vietnam: the vast White Sand Dunes, the glowing Red Sand Dunes and the eroded sandstone of the Fairy Stream. At dawn, the Mui Ne Fishing Village fills with boats and basket boats, while the Po Shanu Cham Towers recall the ancient Champa kingdom. Steady winds from November to April have made Mui Ne one of Asia’s top kitesurfing spots.
