Tour Information & Itinerary
The Toum Tiou I Cruise is an 8-day, 7-night Classic Mekong river cruise between Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and Siem Reap, sailed in both directions by CF Mekong by CroisiEurope. With only 10 cabins and 20 passengers, this 38-metre ship is small enough to sail right into Saigon’s port and through the narrow Cho Gao canal, stopping at My Tho, Cai Be, Sa Dec, Chau Doc, Phnom Penh, Kampong Tralach and Kampong Chhnang. All meals, onboard drinks (except the premium list), excursions with local guides, tips and the coach between the ship and Siem Reap are included. Published fares start from US$2,078 per person, twin share.
Good to know (October 2026): on the low-water program the ship starts or ends at Koh Chen, linked to Siem Reap by a 5–6 hour coach (included). If you sail from Saigon to Cambodia, you need an ordinary Cambodian tourist visa – the Cambodian e-visa is not accepted at the river border. The ship has no lift and is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. Cruise code VTE-TT1-8.

Why Choose the Toum Tiou I Cruise
- Truly small: 10 cabins and 20 guests, so the crew knows every guest and excursions never feel crowded.
- Saigon by river: a shallow draft of 1.7 m lets the Toum Tiou I sail from the heart of Saigon and through the Cho Gao canal instead of starting by coach.
- All-inclusive: meals, local drinks, wine and beer from the standard list, excursions, guides and tips are in the fare.
- Off-the-radar stops: Sa Dec, Kampong Tralach and Kampong Chhnang see far fewer visitors than the main Mekong stops.
- French know-how: CF Mekong pioneered Mekong river cruising in the early 2000s and has been part of the CroisiEurope group since 2014.

Choose Your Direction: Upstream or Downstream
The Classic program runs the same route in both directions, at the same price. Upstream starts in Saigon by river; downstream starts in Siem Reap, so you can see Angkor first and finish in Saigon.

Practical Information: Visas, Weather and Money
- Cambodia visa (upstream): the Cambodian e-visa is valid only at airports and some land borders – it is not accepted at the river border. You need an ordinary one-month tourist visa: apply at a Cambodian embassy before travel, or get it at the river border or on arrival at Phnom Penh port (about US$35 and two passport photos).
- Vietnam visa (downstream): on your Vietnam e-visa, enter the port of entry as Vinh Xuong international border gate, An Giang province and set the entry date one day before the ship crosses the border. Check whether your nationality is visa-exempt.
- Mobility: there is no lift on board and river banks can be steep and slippery, so the cruise is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility.
- Weather: the dry season runs from December to April (25–35°C); from May to November short, heavy afternoon storms are common.
- Money: the currency on board is the US dollar; extras can be paid in cash or by Visa/MasterCard at the end of the cruise. Bring some small US dollar notes for Cambodia and a little Vietnamese dong for the delta.
- Holidays: during Tết (February), Khmer New Year (April), Pchum Ben (September) and the Water Festival (November) some sites may close without notice.

Local Expert Tips by Jimmy
- Book the main deck if you want the river right outside your window – it is also the cheaper deck.
- Choose downstream if you want to see Angkor first: spend two or three nights in Siem Reap, then finish the trip in Saigon.
- Sort your visa early – upstream guests need the ordinary Cambodian tourist visa, not the e-visa.
- Add a day in Saigon before or after the cruise for the Cu Chi Tunnels or a Saigon Vespa tour – see our Saigon travel guide.
