Tour Information & Itinerary
The Hanoi Vespa Full Day City & Countryside Tour is a full-day ride on the back of a classic Vespa that shows both faces of Hanoi. In the morning you cross the Red River to the 2,000-year-old Co Loa Citadel, rice fields, a woodcarving village and a local market. After lunch you see the city: Ba Dinh, the B-52 wreck in Huu Tiep Lake, West Lake, the John McCain memorial, a Red River farming village, egg coffee and Long Bien Bridge. US$107 per person in a small group, or US$117 per person private.
Status (checked October 2026): the route below is the standard full-day loop. Stops can change with traffic, weather, harvest season and festival days. Hanoi authorities ask tour operators not to take visitors to Train Street, so this tour rides through Old Quarter backstreets instead and shows you the railway from Long Bien Bridge.

Is a Full-Day Vespa Tour Worth It?
Yes, if you have one free day and want to see more than the Old Quarter. A full day is the only way to combine the countryside north of the Red River with the city sights, because the rural stops alone take a whole morning. You ride as a passenger the whole time, so the day is long but not tiring.
If you only have half a day, choose The Insider’s Hanoi Tour by Vintage Vespa (city and a Red River village) or the Hanoi Highlights & West Lake Tour by Vintage Vespa (city and West Lake temples). Both take 4.5 hours.

Tour Highlights
1. Co Loa Citadel
Co Loa, in Dong Anh north of the Red River, was the capital of King An Duong Vuong in the 3rd century BC. Parts of its spiral earthen ramparts still stand among the villages, and the temple to An Duong Vuong is the centre of the site. It is a special national heritage site of Vietnam.
2. Rice Fields, Farms and Back Roads
The Vespas leave the main roads for narrow lanes between rice paddies. Depending on the season you see farmers planting, tending or harvesting, and your guide helps you chat with them.
3. A Woodcarving Village and a Local Market
You visit a village workshop where craftsmen carve Buddhist statues by hand, then walk through a busy village market and share a snack with a local family.
4. Ba Dinh, the B-52 Lake and West Lake
After lunch the tour turns to the city. From a viewpoint near the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum you see the Presidential Palace and the National Assembly. At Huu Tiep Lake the wreck of a US B-52, shot down on the night of 27 December 1972, still lies in the water. You then ride along West Lake and stop at the John McCain memorial on Truc Bach Lake.
5. A Red River Village and Kumquat Gardens
Along the river you visit a farming area with banana groves, vegetable plots and kumquat gardens – the little orange trees every Hanoi family displays at Tet – and meet the people who live there.
6. Egg Coffee and Long Bien Bridge
The day ends with Hanoi egg coffee and a ride across Long Bien Bridge, the steel bridge over the Red River that opened in 1902, before your driver takes you back to your hotel.
Who This Tour Is For – and Who Should Choose Another
Ideal for: travellers with one free day in Hanoi who want rural life and city sights together, photographers who like rice fields and village scenes, and anyone who prefers riding to walking.
Consider another option if:
- A full day on a scooter feels too long – choose one of the 4.5-hour Vespa tours.
- You are pregnant or have back or neck problems – a long scooter ride is not recommended.
- You want to go inside museums and temples – the Hanoi City Tour 1 Day by car spends more time inside the sights.
- Food is your main interest – choose the Hanoi After Dark Street Food Tour by Vintage Vespa.

Local Expert Notes by Jimmy
- Best seasons for the countryside: rice fields are greenest in July–August and October; the harvest is golden in late May–June and late September–October.
- Sun and dust: bring sunglasses, sun cream and a light scarf – the country roads can be dusty in the dry season.
- Closed shoes and long trousers or a long skirt are safer on a scooter and suitable for temple and village visits.
- Winter mornings from December to February can be around 15 °C on the river – bring a jacket.
- Rain: the tour runs in light rain and ponchos are provided; in a storm we may change the date.
- Tipping: not required, but tips for drivers and the guide are appreciated.
