Doc Let Beach: White Sand Day Trip from Nha Trang
Doc Let Beach (Bãi biển Dốc Lết) is a long white-sand beach on the Hon Khoi peninsula, about 49 km north of central Nha Trang in Dong Ninh Hoa ward, Khanh Hoa. It is known for fine sand, shallow turquoise water, coconut palms and the dawn fish market of Ninh Thuy village. The public beach is free (small parking and shower fees), about 1–1.5 hours by car.
Status (checked October 2026): open as normal; the public beach has no entrance ticket, while resort beach sections are for guests or day-use customers. October to December is the rainy, stormy season, when the sea can be rough and swimming unsafe on some days; the best beach weather is roughly January to September. Since July 2025 the area belongs to Dong Ninh Hoa ward (formerly Ninh Hai ward, Ninh Hoa town).
Why Doc Let Beach is worth seeing:
- Some of the whitest sand near Nha Trang: fine, pale sand and a gently sloping shore.
- Shallow, calm water: good for families and relaxed swimming in the dry season.
- Ninh Thuy dawn fish market: boats land their overnight catch on the sand from about 5:00.
- Far quieter than the city beach: coconut palms, open space and a slower pace.
- A great base for the north: close to the Hon Khoi salt fields, Hon Heo peninsula and Diep Son.

About Doc Let Beach
The name and the place
Doc Let sits on the Hon Khoi peninsula, which juts into the sea between Nha Phu Bay to the south and Van Phong Bay to the north. The beach curves for several kilometres along the peninsula’s eastern shore, backed by casuarina trees, coconut palms, villages and a handful of resorts.
Fishing villages and salt
Ninh Thuy and the neighbouring villages have fished these waters for generations, and the catch from the Van Phong Bay area is still landed on the beach every morning. Just inland, the Hon Khoi salt fields are among the best known in central Vietnam, worked by hand in the dry season.

What to See at Doc Let Beach
1. The white-sand beach
The main attraction is simply the beach: fine pale sand, a gentle slope and clear, turquoise water on calm days, ideal for long walks and easy swimming.
2. Ninh Thuy dawn fish market
From about 5:00 boats bring mackerel, grouper, shrimp, crab, squid and scallops onto the sand. The best light and the busiest trading are around 5:30–6:30; after 7:00 it quietens down. Most seafood has no fixed price, so ask before buying.
3. Hon Khoi salt fields
A short drive away, the salt fields are especially photogenic at sunrise, when workers rake and carry salt across the shining pans (mainly in the dry season).
4. Hon Heo peninsula
The wild, rocky Hon Heo peninsula south-east of Doc Let offers coves and viewpoints; local boats and tours go there from the beach area.
5. Water sports
Kayaks, jet skis and simple boat trips are available at some beach operators and resorts in season; check safety equipment before you go.
6. Seafood on the beach
Beachside restaurants cook the morning’s catch. Agree the price by weight before ordering; see our Nha Trang food guide for dishes to try.
