Tour Information & Itinerary
This private Da Nang – Hoi An tour 5 days (4 nights) adds the old imperial capital to central Vietnam’s classics: Da Nang’s Lady Buddha and Dragon Bridge, the Hai Van Pass, a night in Hue with the Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda and a royal tomb, then My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An Ancient Town and the Marble Mountains. Your own guide, driver and airport transfers are included.
Status (checked October 2026): the itinerary below is a sample that we tailor to your flights, pace and hotel choice. Since 1 July 2025 Hoi An and My Son belong to Da Nang city. In Hue, Can Chanh Palace inside the Imperial City is being rebuilt (planned to finish around 2028–2029), so part of the site is fenced off, and Truong Tien Bridge has been under repair since 1 June 2026 (about 150 days), with traffic closed at night and one footpath shut. October to December is the rainy season; Hue and Hoi An can flood for a day or two.

Is 5 Days Enough for Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue?
Yes – five days lets you see all three without rushing. The extra day over our 4-day tour goes on Hue: you cross the Hai Van Pass, about 21 km of mountain road that climbs to around 496 m, and sleep one night in Hue so you can see the Imperial City in the afternoon and the pagoda and a royal tomb the next morning. Da Nang to Hue is about 100 km, and Hue to Hoi An about three hours by car.
What five days cannot do is add Ba Na Hills or the Cham Islands as well without a very early start every day. If either matters to you, swap it for My Son or ask us to add a sixth day.
Tour Highlights
1. Da Nang: Lady Buddha and the Dragon Bridge
Start with the 67 m Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra Peninsula, then the Dragon Bridge, which breathes fire and water at 21:00 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
2. Hai Van Pass and Lang Co
The old coastal road over the Hai Van Pass is one of Vietnam’s great drives, with views back over Da Nang Bay and down to the lagoon and beach at Lang Co on the northern side.
3. Hue Imperial City
Built from 1804 under Emperor Gia Long, the Hue Imperial City is part of the Complex of Hue Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Enter through Ngo Mon Gate and walk past Thai Hoa Palace to the Forbidden Purple City.
4. Thien Mu Pagoda and Khai Dinh Tomb
Thien Mu Pagoda, founded in 1601, overlooks the Perfume River, while the Tomb of Khai Dinh (built 1920–1931) mixes Vietnamese and European styles, with dazzling glass-and-porcelain mosaics inside.
5. My Son Sanctuary
My Son Sanctuary is a jungle valley of Cham Hindu tower-temples built between the 4th and 13th centuries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We go early, before the heat and the crowds.
6. Hoi An Ancient Town and the Marble Mountains
Walk through Hoi An Ancient Town (UNESCO) with your guide – the Japanese Covered Bridge, assembly halls and merchant houses – and stay for the lanterns. On the last morning, stop at the Marble Mountains on the way to the airport.
Who This Tour Is For – and Who Should Choose Another
Choose this tour if you:
- want central Vietnam’s three World Heritage areas – Hue, Hoi An and My Son – in one trip;
- enjoy history and architecture as much as beaches;
- like the idea of a scenic drive over the Hai Van Pass rather than a flight or train;
- prefer a private guide and car, with the freedom to linger or move on.
Consider another option if you:
- want more beach and pool time – the Da Nang – Hoi An Tour 4 Days is slower and includes Ba Na Hills;
- dislike changing hotels – this route uses three;
- are travelling in October or November, when storms and floods can disrupt the Hai Van Pass and Hoi An’s riverside;
- only have a day in Da Nang – choose our Da Nang City Tour 1 Day.
Accommodation Options
We spend the first night in Da Nang near the beach, one night in Hue on the south bank of the Perfume River within walking distance of the river, and two nights in Hoi An close enough to walk or cycle into the old town. Your hotel category is the same across all three stops.
| Tier | Da Nang (1 night) | Hue (1 night) | Hoi An (2 nights) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Superior | 3-star hotel near My Khe Beach | 3-star hotel near the Perfume River | 3-star boutique hotel near the old town |
| First Class | 4-star sea-view hotel | 4-star riverside hotel | 4-star hotel or riverside resort |
| Deluxe | 5-star beach resort | 5-star hotel in central Hue | 5-star resort in Hoi An or on the nearby beach |

Local Expert Notes by Jimmy
These notes come from years of arranging central Vietnam tours for international travellers.
- Weather: February to April is the most comfortable; June to August is hot. From September to December heavy rain is common, and in storms the Hai Van Pass road may be closed – we then use the tunnel.
- Hue opening hours: the Imperial City keeps summer hours until 15 October and winter hours (ticket desks 7:00–17:00) from 16 October; we plan the visit for the cooler late afternoon.
- Dress code: cover shoulders and knees for Thien Mu Pagoda, the royal tombs and Linh Ung Pagoda.
- Khai Dinh steps: there are 127 steps to the top level; they get slippery in the rain, so wear shoes with grip.
- Truong Tien Bridge: during the 2026 repairs it is closed to traffic from 21:00 to 05:00 and only one footpath is open – evening walks are best on the riverside promenade.
- Dragon Bridge show: 21:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for about 15 minutes – we plan Day 1 around it if your dates allow.
- Tet 2027: Lunar New Year falls on 6 February 2027; some Hue sites change hours and hotels fill early.

FAQs about the Da Nang – Hoi An Tour 5 Days
1. Is 5 days enough for Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue?
Yes. Five days gives you an afternoon in Da Nang, a night in Hue for the Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda and a royal tomb, a day for My Son and Hoi An Ancient Town, and a free morning before your flight.
2. How is this tour different from the 4-day Da Nang – Hoi An tour?
The 5-day tour adds the Hai Van Pass and a night in Hue, and uses My Son Sanctuary instead of Ba Na Hills. The 4-day tour is slower, with more beach time and the Golden Bridge.
3. How far is Hue from Da Nang?
About 100 km. Over the Hai Van Pass with photo stops it takes most of a morning; through the tunnel it is roughly 2 hours. Hue to Hoi An is about 3 hours by car.
4. Is the Hai Van Pass worth it?
Yes, in clear weather it is one of the most scenic drives in Vietnam, about 21 km long and climbing to around 496 m. In storms the road can be closed, and then we use the Hai Van Tunnel.
5. Is the Hue Imperial City open in 2026?
Yes, it is open daily. Can Chanh Palace inside it is being rebuilt until around 2028–2029, so a section behind Thai Hoa Palace is fenced off, but the main sights can be visited.
6. Why stay overnight in Hue instead of a day trip?
A night in Hue avoids two long drives in one day and lets you see the Imperial City in the afternoon and Thien Mu Pagoda and a royal tomb in the cooler morning.
7. Are entrance tickets included?
Yes. Tickets for the Hue Imperial City, Khai Dinh Tomb, My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An Ancient Town and the Marble Mountains are included. Optional activities are extra.
8. Can I visit Ba Na Hills on this tour?
Yes. We can swap My Son for Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, or add a sixth day so you can do both.
9. Can I add the Cham Islands?
Yes, as an extra day in the calm-sea season, roughly March to September. Boats do not run in rough seas, so we keep the day flexible.
10. Is Hoi An part of Da Nang now?
Yes. Since 1 July 2025 the former Quang Nam province has merged into Da Nang city, so Hoi An and My Son Sanctuary are now within Da Nang city.
11. What is the best time of year for this tour?
February to August is best, with February to April the most comfortable. September to December is the rainy season, when Hue and Hoi An can flood briefly.
12. Is this tour suitable for children and older travellers?
Yes. The pace is moderate and the car is private, so we can add breaks. Khai Dinh Tomb has 127 steps and the Marble Mountains have a lift for the steepest part.
13. What should I wear for the temples and tombs?
Cover shoulders and knees for pagodas, temples and the royal tombs, and wear comfortable shoes with grip for steps and caves.
14. How do I get a price for this tour?
Prices depend on your dates, group size and hotel category. Send your travel dates through the inquiry form on this page and we will reply with a tailored quote within 24 hours.
